The Foundation licence is your first step in to the Amateur Radio hobby.

The Foundation licence allows you to transmit on most Amatuer radio bands with a 10 watt power limit.

The foundation course is run over a few weeks as you work through the “Foundation Licence – Now!” book ( available from the RSGB here ) with your tutor.

During the course you will also have the opportunity to learn basic radio operating techniques as well as have your first conversation over the air!

The exam consists of 26 multiple choice questions and then you need to score at least 19 out of 26 to pass. The exam costs £27.50.

You will also need to be a member of Burnley Amatuer Radio Club. This costs £15 for an annual membership and there is also a £1 fee payable each night you attend ( this includes tea, coffee and biscuits ).
